What exactly is this: asylum, temporary protection, humanitarian admission, resettlement or another protection mechanism?

This route is a special Temporary Residency permit for foreign women, aged 18 or over, who are in Chile under a Permanencia Transitoria or Residencia Temporal permit and who hold a medical certificate confirming their pregnancy.

Which population, circumstances or geographic group does the mechanism cover?

Eligibility is limited to foreign women aged 18 or over already present in Chile under a Permanencia Transitoria or Residencia Temporal permit, holding a medical certificate of pregnancy. The request may be made directly by the pregnant woman or by the corresponding Health Service.

What happens after the request: registration, family handling, major support and rights where officially stated?

After the application is sent it passes to the analysis stage; if dependants were declared, their details and documents must be completed in the following steps. Once sent, the applicant receives a receipt by email, and that document may serve to leave Chile if necessary. If the application is not accepted, a notification explaining the reason is sent; if it is accepted, delivery of the original pregnancy certificate is requested, following the instructions given in that notification. After the additional documentation is analysed, and if all requirements are met, the applicant receives the 'Certificado de Residencia Temporal en trámite'.
