What investment option or options qualify?

Being a foreign investor, or an investor who is a citizen of an East African Community member state, or that investor's representative: the permanent work permit is also issued to them, on production of the documents attesting it, where their presence in Burundi is justified by the concern to follow the management of their capital.

The only monetary figure in Ordonnance conjointe n°570/530/921 is the employer's tax of 3% of the worker's gross annual salary (Art 31), which is a payroll tax and not an investment threshold. How long must the investment be maintained and what continuing ownership, investment or physical-presence conditions are important?

Which family members can be included where officially stated, and what broad residence/work rights result?

The ordinance covers family only for employment purposes: a spouse or a child of a foreign worker or of a citizen of an East African Community member state, who is not a Burundian citizen and who finds employment in Burundi, must themselves file an application for a work permit or for a special work authorisation in accordance with the ordinance. The official source does not state which family members may be included in the investor's permit or any residence right for them.

The permanent work permit is issued to a foreign investor, or an investor who is a citizen of an East African Community member state, or that investor's representative, where their presence in Burundi is justified by the concern to follow the management of their capital. Under the ordinance's general rule for all work permits, a foreign worker or a citizen of an East African Community member state who wishes to renew the work permit must do so one month before it expires.
