What exact activity, role or purpose qualifies?

Bosnia and Herzegovina may grant temporary residence to a foreign volunteer who is at least 18 and no older than 65 and meets the general temporary-residence conditions. The route is for a volunteer placement, not a general work-permit route.

Limits of the record
  • Captured statutory text is the 2015 law with amendments through the 2023 amendment captured for this run; a fully consolidated official 2026 text and independent legal review remain pending.

What organisation, institution, religious body, charity, teacher or host must support the activity?

The volunteer must have a contract concluded before volunteering with a host in Bosnia and Herzegovina: an institution, humanitarian organisation, citizens’ association or foundation where the activity takes place. The host assumes specified responsibilities for the volunteer during the placement.

Limits of the record
  • The SFA route form is undated; its present operational status is not established by the capture. The statutory amendment and checklist use different insurance wording.

What proves the placement, role, affiliation, experience or cultural/religious/voluntary activity?

The file must describe the project and volunteer-work scheme, duties, number of people carrying out the work, placement period, supervision and working hours. The SFA checklist also requests the host’s certificate describing the position and, for a humanitarian organisation, project authorisation and registration/solvency evidence.

Limits of the record
  • The SFA checklist is undated; document-list currentness remains pending independent review.

Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

The host must cover subsistence, accommodation, food, health insurance and return-related responsibility during the placement. The official SFA checklist lists several possible means-of-subsistence proofs, including a bank balance of at least BAM 400 per month, but the form is undated. Article 57 and the form do not establish whether an allowance or salary is permitted or confer a separate right to take other paid work.

Limits of the record
  • The undated SFA form lists BAM 400 per month as one evidence option, not a confirmed current universal statutory minimum. The sources do not resolve payment/allowance or separate-work rights.

How long can they stay, can they change host/activity, can family accompany, and can the status be extended?

Temporary residence for a volunteer is granted for up to one year. It may be extended under the same conditions only where the project the volunteer is engaged in lasts longer than one year. The general first-application and extension filing rules in the law also apply. The law does not specify a general right to change host or bring family under this route.

Limits of the record
  • The route provisions reviewed do not establish host-change/family conditions. A consolidated official 2026 text and independent review remain pending.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
