Which athletes, coaches, technicians, officials or other sports professionals does the pathway cover?

This pathway covers foreigners who come to Bosnia and Herzegovina to take part in sports events and competitions. Under Article 77(1)(l) of the Law they may do so without a work permit for up to 90 days in a year, and Article 77(3) exempts this class even from the certificate of registered work that the other short-engagement classes need.

What club, federation, governing body or recognised organisation relationship is required?

The law frames the class around participation in a sports event or competition held in Bosnia and Herzegovina rather than around a club contract; no club, federation or organiser document is prescribed because, uniquely among the Article 77(1) classes, no certificate of registered work is required.

Limits of the record
  • The law does not name the event organiser, club or federation relationship in any more detail; treat any club-relationship requirement as not published.

What sporting level, achievement, professional status, recognition or other sports-specific condition distinguishes the pathway?

No sporting level, ranking or professional status is prescribed: the statutory condition is simply coming to the country to participate in a sports event or competition.

Limits of the record
  • No official source publishes a sporting-level or achievement threshold for this class; treat it as not published.

What sporting/work activity is permitted, what club or activity restrictions exist, and what is the family position?

Participation in the sports event or competition is permitted without a work permit and without a registration certificate while the visa, visa-free stay or approved temporary residence is valid, for up to 90 days in a year (the 2023 amendment replaced "calendar year" with "a year"). This mechanism does not address family members; any family residence is governed by the separate family-reunification rules.

How long does the status last, how does renewal or change of club work where stated, and what longer-term residence possibilities exist?

The mechanism grants no residence and has no renewal: it is capped at 90 days in a year, and anyone intending to work in the country for longer must obtain a work permit and a residence permit on the basis of employment with a work permit.
