Limits of the record
  • Visa Policy 2026's entry for this category lists only application form, passport, relationship certificates and a recommendation/appointment letter; it states no separate financial support, accommodation or insurance obligation for the sponsor or the dependant.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The duration of FPI status (Dependent family members of PI) is coterminous with that of the principal visa holder, and any extension is likewise coterminous with that holder. Employment in Bangladesh is prohibited for the dependant; non-compliance leads to cancellation of the visa. No separate long-term settlement pathway is stated for this dependant category. The official source does not describe the application process.
