Which family relationships qualify?

The route is for non-Bahamians married to Bahamian nationals who live with their Bahamian spouse and have been married for less than five years at the time of application.

    Non-Bahamians who are married to Bahamian nationals may be eligible for a Resident Spouse Permit .  This permit allows spouses of Bahamians to legally live and work in The Bahamas, provided that they live with their Bahamian spouse and have been married for less than five years, at the time of application. Please note that once five years of marriage have passed, the non-Bahamian spouse may apply for an extension of Resident Spouse Permit, citizenship, or permanent residency.

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The qualifying sponsor is the applicant's Bahamian spouse. The application requires a copy of that spouse's passport biographical data page, a certified copy of their birth certificate, a copy of their Bahamian registration or naturalisation where applicable, and a letter from their employer verifying employment.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The marriage is proved with a certified copy of the marriage certificate, the applicant's original birth certificate verified by the Consulate and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a certified copy of the Bahamian spouse's birth certificate, and certified copies of the birth certificates of children of the marriage and of the applicant's other children under 18. A death certificate or divorce decree for a previous spouse is required where applicable.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The couple must live together, and the application must include a letter from the Bahamian spouse's employer verifying employment, plus one from the applicant's employer where applicable.
