Which family relationships qualify?

The route is open to a dependent of someone who is legally authorised to reside in The Bahamas, whether that person is Bahamian or non-Bahamian; dependants may be spouses or children under the age of 18.

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The sponsor is the person the applicant is dependent on, who must be legally authorised to reside in The Bahamas and may be Bahamian or non-Bahamian. A copy of the sponsor's passport biographical data page is required, and a child not accompanied by their parents needs a court document granting custody or guardianship to the sponsor.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The relationship is proved with a certified copy of the applicant's marriage certificate and a certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate showing the parents' names, both where applicable. For children not accompanied by their parents, a court document granting custody or guardianship to the sponsor and certified copies of the parents' birth certificates are required, and where a child is not accompanied by both parents the accompanying parent or guardian must provide evidence of legal custody.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

Adult and independent applicants must provide a reference from their financial institution stating a figure range and/or a statement prepared by a Certified Public Accountant, and must complete the Annual Permit Questionnaire. Each applicant must also provide an original medical certificate dated no earlier than 30 days before submission. The official source does not state a minimum amount of funds, an accommodation requirement or a health-insurance requirement.
