What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

Applicants must be a member of the family unit of a primary Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (SESR) (494) visa holder, applying separately from the primary applicant because the family composition changed after the primary application was lodged or after the primary visa was already granted.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

A written letter from the family member's work sponsor extending the sponsorship obligation to include the applicant must be attached to the application.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The applicant must have a family member who is a primary Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (SESR) visa holder or main applicant; the work sponsor (employer) with the most recent approved nomination for that person must agree in writing to include the applicant as a family member in the nomination; and the applicant must show Functional English or pay the second instalment. The official source does not state any occupation, qualification, experience or salary requirement for the applicant.

Limits of the record
  • The official source does not state any occupation, qualification, experience or salary requirement for the applicant.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The holder can live, work and study only in designated regional areas of Australia, which include all of Australia except Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane; if the holder does not, the visa might be cancelled. The visa is for members of the family unit of a primary SESR (494) visa holder. Usually the family member applies at the same time as the primary applicant; where this is not possible, which may occur where the composition of the family changes after the primary applicant has submitted their SESR application and it is still pending, or after the SESR visa has been granted, the family member applies separately as a subsequent entrant. The applicant must attach a written letter from the family member's work sponsor (employer) extending the sponsorship obligation to include them, and must meet health and character requirements. The official source does not state whether the holder is tied to a particular employer or occupation.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

This provisional visa allows a stay of up to 5 years, expiring at the same time as the primary SESR visa holder's visa. It cannot be extended, but if eligible, the holder may apply for permanent residence with the primary SESR visa holder after 3 years from when the primary visa was granted.
