Which family relationships qualify?

B.1.1 is Andorra's initial residence for family reunification with heads of diplomatic missions, diplomatic agents and Administration staff serving abroad. The qualifying relatives are narrower than under the general B.1 route: the spouse or the member of a registered stable partnership, and the applicant's minor children together with the spouse's minor children over whom they have legal care and custody.

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The sponsor is a head of a diplomatic mission, a diplomatic agent or a member of the Administration staff serving abroad. That status must be evidenced by a certificate from the ministry responsible for foreign affairs attesting the sponsor's post and the destination of the mission abroad, and the authorisation's validity is maintained only while the applicant remains in active service and the other requirements that justified the reunification continue to be met.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

A married applicant provides an official marriage certificate, and a stable partnership an official Andorran Civil Registry certificate, both issued less than 3 months before the application. Minor children of the applicant or spouse need a birth certificate issued within 3 months showing filiation, or a certified copy of the adoption decision; an adult child aged 18 to 25 in continuous study needs a certificate of secondary, university or postgraduate study as their exclusive activity. Custody of a minor child is proved by a notarial document or judicial decision, legalised if foreign.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The initial authorisation lasts ten years, and renewals are granted for ten-year periods under the same conditions. It remains valid while the applicant remains in active service and the other requirements that justified the reunification continue to be met. The file is completed with a signature document, medical review information and consent to medical tests, the comu registration record and an authorisation to submit or collect documentation; all foreign official documents must be apostilled or duly legalised. The official source does not state the rights granted.
