Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

Subtype CULTURAL (event attendance): the cultural visa is issued on an invitation to a seminar or event of a cultural, scientific or sporting nature plus proof of the visitor's own resources for the duration of the stay (Décret 66-212 as amended, art. 5 bis 1, 10°); the Embassy in The Hague asks for a bank statement showing at least 40 euros per day excluding hotel (list updated 20/06/2025). Loi 08-11 art. 10 defines the non-resident (stay of up to 90 days) as a foreigner without the intention of exercising a professional or salaried activity, and paid employment is covered by the separate work visa, which requires an employment contract and a provisional work authorisation (art. 5 bis 1, 6°). The official texts do not say whether the inviting organisation may pay an honorarium, pocket money, meals, accommodation or reimbursements to a cultural-visa holder.

Limits of the record
  • Décret 66-212 (as amended by Décret présidentiel 03-251, 2003) is the application decree of Ordonnance 66-211, which Loi 08-11 art. 51 (2008) repealed; Loi 08-11 art. 7 refers visa procedures to regulation and no later regulation was found on joradp.dz (checked via JO PDFs and Perplexity as a search aid). The MFA's current entry-visa page, the MFA foreigner guide (which cites the 2008 law) and consular posts reproduce the same document list, but the decree's formal validity was not independently confirmed.
  • No official text found that expressly permits or prohibits honoraria, pocket money, per diems, in-kind accommodation/meals or expense reimbursement for cultural-visa holders; the 'no professional or salaried activity' element comes from the statutory definition of non-resident (Loi 08-11 art. 10), not from a rule written for the cultural visa.
  • Loi 81-10 of 11 July 1981 on the employment of foreign workers could not be read: the JORADP 1981 n° 28 PDF (joradp.dz/FTP/jo-francais/1981/F1981028.pdf) is a scan without a text layer; the work-authorisation requirement is therefore cited from the visa decree (6°), not from that law.
  • The 40 euros/day minimum is the requirement of the Embassy in The Hague only (updated 20/06/2025); other posts state 'justificatifs de ressources' without an amount.

How long can they stay, can they change host/activity, can family accompany, and can the status be extended?

For a cultural-event visitor, the general visa guidance states a maximum stay of 90 days per entry and a cumulative maximum of 180 days per year. It allows exceptional extension and says visas may be extended in Algeria under certain conditions, but does not clearly explain the extension period or conditions. The official source does not state whether the visitor may change host or activity, or have family accompany them.

Limits of the record
  • The source gives general visa limits, not a cultural-visa-specific grant duration.
  • Extension conditions and procedures are not specified, and the wording does not clearly distinguish an additional extension period from a total extended stay.
  • Rules on changing the cultural-event host or activity are not provided.
  • No accompanying-family entitlement or dependant procedure is established.
  • L155, extension of visas
Extension of the visa on the spot: the visa can be extended in Algeria under certain conditions.
  • L160, duration of stay
    - Duration of stay: the maximum duration of stay authorized at each entry into Algeria is 90 days, which may, exceptionally, be extended not to exceed 90 days. The actual cumulative stay may not exceed 180 days per year.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
